 Like everyone else who
is an Artist I started out very young from drawings to crayons to
paintings. My burning desire to be a professional Artist has only
developed up until now. I chose a different career path prior, only
because I wanted to be a professional public servant and be looked up to.
And I have discovered as a result of that, those who do must make a great
sacrifice in their lives that no one else can ever imagine! Now that this
career is behind me and after 9/11 I am starting a new chapter in my life.
While I do love to paint I also discovered that it is also very
therapeutic and addictive! After one painting has finished I feel that I
must do another one without question or hesitation. My love for Native
Americans compels me to do their portraitures and or cultures. I also want
to pursue my culture and heritage as well since I do have Native American
DNA within me, African, as well as European making me a proud Puerto
Rican.
My signature SGR/211357 has a twofold meaning: 1st, My name Sonia
Rodriguez means: “Daughter of rich and powerful wisdom” I have also chosen
an Artistic name “Guaroco” which means “To know and remember” as a Taino
word. Hence, the meaning in it’s entirety “To know and remember rich
powerful wisdom” is dedicated to the viewer of my creativity as an
endearment. 2nd fold meaning to my name and it’s numerical is dedicated to
my first career path, as I am a retired Emergency Medical Technician.
211357 is my New York State retired EMS Certificate No. Those number’s are
their to remind myself of the special camaraderie that I had with my
colleagues, since they are and forever will be my other family, And it’s
numerical dedication to those who I knew who perished in 9/11. Keith
Fairben, Carlos Lillo, Mark Schwartz, and William Stone. These guy’s will
forever be in my heart and memory always to “know and remember.” We may
not be the hero cop, or the brave fireman, but we are the unsung hero's
known as only the rescue worker’s. I hope that my art work can bring
entertainment and joy to your life and exclaim “wow!!!” and if I did, then
that mean’s I have attained my ultimate goal of creativity and
